CHIEF MINISTER INNAGURATES CHUBI BRIDGE
Nagaland Chief
Minister, Nephiu Rio today the 23th August 2010 inaugurated the newly constructed Chubi
Bridge at Doyang, Wokha. Rio in his inaugural speech congratulated the NEEPCO Officials
specially the engineering wing for their tireless efforts in constructing and completing
the Bridge. He said that the bridge will not only connect Sungro Range but will create
easy accessibility for the other districts like Mokokchung, Mon, Tuensang and Zunheboto
for reaching to the commercial cities in a short distance and hoped that the opening of
this new bridge will create more avenues for economic and developmental activities. He further stated that, the Government is trying
its best in pressing development in all nook and corner of the state however the biggest
issue hampering the development within the state is due to land ownership problem. Rio
therefore appealed to the land owners to address their grievances in a reasonable way and
cooperate with the Government and the authorities, in order to develop our land into a
vibrant society. The Chief Minister also said that the region has a huge potential for
integrated irrigation and urged the people of the area to extend co-operation to the
government to bring about more development in future. Rio also informed that under the
declaration of the Year of Entrepreneurs the government wants to sponsor two
interested youth to undergo for a study in plunge Jump at Switzerland where after they
completed their study they would come back and thereby boost the tourist attraction.
The NEEPCO a
certified organization had employees of 2400 with its H.Q at Shillong and had an installed
capacity of 1130 power with an aim to generate power through Hydro and Thermal. Apart from
that they also helped the people of the region through opening and constructing hospitals,
Schools and Dispensary to the effected people of the region. It may also be noted that the
Doyang had an installed capacity of 75MW giving 12% free power supply to the state of
Nagaland, also according to the NEEPCO Officials 1% of the total income were being used to
the welfare of the people of the effected people. It may be mentioned that the bridge was
constructed at the cost of Rs.7.1 Cores under NEEPCO Cooperative Social Responsibility
Scheme CSRS where according to the engineering wing vehicle with more than 9 tonnes are
not allowed to cross the bridge.
The function was
chaired by the Deputy Commissioner, Wokha, Rovilatuo Mor where P. Konwar proposed the vote
of thanks. Chief Minister was accompanied by his Cabinet colleagues, Parliamentary
Secretaries and a host of dignitaries and other government officials. Earlier the Chief
Minister also inaugurated a welcome gate at Englan EAC H.Q

TRAINING FOR STATE PWD ENGINEERS UNDERWAY
A weeklong
training programme, first of its kind for the PWD Engineers of the State, commenced today
the 23rd August 2010 which will conclude on the 28th August 2010.
The Commissioner
& Secretary, Works & Housing, Temjen Toy in his address at the inaugural programme
said that trainings are the area where the government has concern for further development.
He said that it is an opportunity for the officers while also expressing his happiness
over the registration of 97 Engineers from all over the state.
Temjen Toy urged
the officers to make the best use of the training by attending all the sessions and also
advised them to clear their doubts in the sessions saying that one should not hesitate to
ask questions to do away with doubts.
The Commissioner
emphasised that the state needs professionals in the field and advised the engineers to
always keep updating themselves with the latest information as also with the different
kind of terrain and soil condition.
The Joint
Director National Institute for Training of Highway Engineers (NITHE), who is also a
resource person in the training programme, briefed the trainees on the NITHE set up and
functions and on the courses and subjects such as lecture on drainage, road design,
rehabilitation of bridges, landslides-its prevention and control, preparation of good DPR,
testing and specification of concrete materials to be discussed in the training.
Another resource
person, H.K. Sharma, a hill expert and former SE, Uttrakhand PWD, Dehradun in his short
speech said that the Engineers who in spite of having degrees and knowledge faces many
difficulties when it comes to the practical aspects and encouraged them to give their
efforts in rendering their services in the field.
The other
resource persons are Dr. S.C. Maiti, Former Joint Director, NCCBM, New Delhi, Satish
Sagar, Former CE, Himachal PWD, Shimla (HP), Col S.P. Tomer, Team Leader, NHAI Projects
Unihorn India Pvt. Ltd, New Delhi, Dachiku Kiyoshi NITHE Noida (UP), Dr. Vasant Havanagi,
Sr. Scientist, CRRI, New Delhi, Prof. A.K. Duggal, Head, Department of Civil Engineer,
NITTTR, Chandigarh (UT), Ashok Kumar, Chief Engineer M/o Road Transport & Highways New
Delhi, Kamleshs Kumar, CE, M/o RT&H and Director, NITHE.
The training
will focus on Detailed Project Preparation and Maintenance of Roads and Quality control in
Highway/Road Construction for the Engineers of Nagaland.
The function was
chaired by Engineer-in-Chief Dr.Vikuotuolie Angami who in his introductory remarks said
the faculty members are the most eminent and prominent in the field. He appealed to the
officers to maintain punctuality and give their efforts to learn during the various
sessions. The Chief Engineer PWD (R&B) D. Mero in his welcome address said that DPR is
the key to success and added that lots of money are spent for that. He also said that care
should be given to quality control system. Vote of thanks was proposed by Chief Engineer
(Housing) L.Y. Sumi.
The trainees are
divided into group A & B. One of the groups will be receiving the training at the
Police Headquarter, P.R. Hill. The programme is sponsored by M/o PT&H and M/o DoNER,

NMP+ EXPRESSES GRATITUDE TO WOMEN DEVELOPMENT KOHIMA
Network of Mokokchung District People Living with HIV/AIDS (NMP+)
has expressed gratitude to Women Development Kohima for granting nutritional
food items such as rice, dal, ghee and measuring scale to the women living with
HIV/AIDS. Acknowledging the nutritional support, the NMP+ in a press note said that it
would remain indebted to the Women Development for their support and contribution.

ARMY RECRUITMENT RALLY UNDERWAY AT PHEK
Army recruitment rally was underwent here at Phek in the local
ground on 23rd August 2010 and it
will continue till 29th August 2010. The
rally is being conducted by Army recruitment office Rangapahar. Thousands of young boys
from Nagaland are competing to enroll in army service.

DEO NUKHU GRACES CLOSING CEREMONY OF RAJIV GANDHI AKSHAY URJA DIWAS
The Advisor,
Science & Technology, New & Renewable Energy, Art & Culture, Nagaland, Deo
Nukhu graced the closing ceremony of Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas as the Chief Guest at
Zonal Council Hall, Kohima on 20th August 2010. The programme was sponsored by the
Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India, New Delhi and organized by
the Department of NRE, Nagaland.
While speaking on the occasion, Nukhu expressed his gratitude to
the students for their participation in the competition and called upon them to create
awareness of New & Renewable Energy to other people. He also informed that Master Plan
for Solar Energy is prepared for Kohima city as well as Dimapur.
The former Prime
Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi birth anniversary was also marked with painting and essay
competition by the schools located in Kohima Town. The essay competition was conducted on
the topic of onwards a Cleaner, Healthier and Eco-friendly Environment through New
