 Dimapur College was started at the initiative of some prominent
citizens of the town to provide an opportunity
for higher studies to those who could not afford to go outside Dimapur. It was established
in 1966 and was affiliated to the Gauhati University,Guwahati, upto Degree Pass Course in
Arts and Commerce.
The College was under the North Eastern
Hill University (NEHU) Shillong, from 1974 to 1993. It is now affiliated to the Nagaland University,
which was established in July 1994. The College was taken over by the Government of
Nagaland on 1st February 1989 and named as Dimapur Govt.College.
The College offers Honours courses in
English,Economics,Education,History, Political Science and Commerce.

Progress of the College :
a..The College could organize monthly departmental seminars where all
the faculties and honours students could participate.
b.Under the students activities, Miss Purnaro NCC Cadet from the
College participated in the Youth exchange programmed held at Germany in the month of
November,2009.
Physical development:
a.Apart from renovation works and construction of two additional
classrooms, the boundary wall from the main approach road extending up to the new library
site covering a distance of 250 mtrs have been constructed
b.Construction of 40 bedded Women’s hostel is under way. This
project is scheduled for completion by the month of May,2010.
