Kohima College was established on 9th of August, 1967. It owes its origin to the four large hearted persons of Kohima Village, who felt the need for a College in the Capital city of Nagaland, which would, if not fully, at least partly fulfill the aspirations of our upcoming youths for higher education. The need was all the more urgent, since there was no College offering studies in the branch of humanities in Kohima town since 1879 and 1963 when it was declared  district headquarters and state capital respectively. Therefore, it was left to the local elite to care for, concern themselves, and devise ways and means to provide higher education at a cheap cost and in their own surroundings.

Dr.Neilhouzhu Kire, Dr.Satuo Sekhose, Mr.Vibeilie Solo and Mr.Vilalhoulie Belho rose to the occasion and lit the torch of the Kohima College, the first private College in Kohima in 1967.

The College was taken over by the Government on 01.02.2006
