
The Nagaland College of Teacher Education,
Kohima (the erstwhile Nagaland College of Education ) was established in the year 1975.
Realizing the need for improving the quality of education at the Secondary level, this
College was established through the joint effort of the State Government of Nagaland and
the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU),Shillong. Dr.K.J.Joseph who was posted as Reader
NEHU,Kohima campus was the ex-officio Principal of the College in the month of February,
1975. Shri.O.Kathipri, the then Special Secretary Education,Government of Nagaland
inaugurated the B.Ed.class which began on 1st April,1975 in the Girls Hostel of
Government High School,Kohima.
Late
Shri L.P.Singh, the then Governor, formally inaugurated the College on the 5th
April,1975 The College campus is located in
the Kohima-Wokha road, next to Government High School Complex. The College has been
recognized by NCTE in 1996.
The College offers B.ed Course.

Progress
of the College: : Apart from various
academic programmes organized by NCTE to bring about trainees efficacy in the teaching
learning process, the College is progressively producing better results. This was
corroborated by the fact that a record of sorts was achieved by the 2008 batch. The pass
percentage was 96.95% with 5 trainees being placed in the top ten, 62 in first division
and 2 more in the second division. It is also a matter of pride for the College that for
the year 2008, two of NCTE staff were awarded the Meritorious Award and Commendation certificate.
