The setting up of  Wangkhao Govt.College, previously  known as Arts college, Mon was the fulfillment of a long felt want and need of the people of Mon. Members of the founding Executive Committee during the nascent days were Shri R.S.Pandey (the then D.C as president), Mr.W.Manpong (Secretary), Mr.Tingshen (Treasurer),Mr.Tingom and Mr.Bal (the then A.D.C.) and Dr.N.V.George, the founder Principal.

                       The College was inaugurated by Mr.Nocklem, the then Hon’ble Minister (H&TE), Nagaland on the 5th July, 1983 and the approval orders from the Govt. was issued in two months .The College named Alamkaphen College at the  inception but subsequently re-named Arts College with the expressed reservations by a section of leaders was started initially in Mon Govt.High School and classes were held in the afternoon. 

The College offers Honours courses in English,Political Science and History.
