Infrastructural Development in Govt. Colleges-during 2007-08

The Department of Higher Education have implemented  various works programme under the State Plan for ongoing works and at the same time taken up new projects.

Construction of Science building at Phek College, Phek, Sao Chang College, Tuensang, construction of 3 storeyed RCC building at Science College, Jotsoma, 2 storeyed RCC building for boys hostel at Science College, Jotsoma and construction of girls hostel at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung has been completed.

            Construction of Kohima College building, Kohima and Poly carbonate roofing of Kohima College, Kohima are in progress. Tender and work order formalities for construction of Mount Tiyi College, Wokha is in progress, work for the same is expected to commence soon.

(g) To help the students to commute to the learning institutes, the Department could provide one Bus each to the following Colleges, namely, (i) Wangkhao College, Mon, (ii) Kohima College, Kohima, (iii) Yingli College, Longleng.

            A new Bus has also been given to Zunheboto College, Zunheboto in the month in the month of February 2008 by the Chief Minister of Nagaland.

(h) The Department is in the process of training the selected Teachers from Private and Govt. Colleges on DISATER MANAGEMENT during the current year.

(i) The new academic building at Zunheboto Govt. College, Zunheboto was completed and inaugurated on 5th January 2008 (Saturday) by the Deputy Commissioner, Zunheboto District. The fund was provided by the State Government (outside the normal Department’s budget). 

(j) EDUSAT Network Connectivity in Nagaland – launched by the Indian Space Research Organization(ISRO) a satellite entirely dedicated to education on 20th September,2004, Satellite Technology with possibilities of various technological combinations and ability to cover a large area have been proposed to meet the challenges of the educational sector in Nagaland. EDUSAT is a geo synchronized satellite of 2000 kg of weight. It has one national KU band, six national extended-C band transponder and 5 regional beam at KU band.

Objectives: The EDUSAT connectivity in the state of Nagaland is proposed with the following objectives.

(a).To impart the teaching at remotely located colleges, higher secondary & high schools, teachers training and polytechnics institutes in Nagaland, based on the curriculum of the concerned departments.

(b)To provide interaction through interactive modes among teachers and students for sharing ideas, experiences and new developments.

( c)To enhance the abilities of students to relate concepts and theories to real life and practical situations through demonstrations and experiments using TV,Video and computer connectivity.

(d)To provide career counseling to the students of Higher Secondary and Colleges.

Total of 50 Satellite Interactive Terminals(SITs) have been identified under Higher, Schools and Technical Education in Nagaland.

Installation of 30 SITS have been completed

Present Status:

1.A steering committee under the chairmanship of the Chief Secretary is constituted with representation from various concerned departments.

2.Department of Higher Education has been identified as the nodal department for implementing the EDUSAT project.

3.The Principal Kohima Science College has been identified as the nodal officer for the EDUSAT project.

4.The installation of the EDUSAT Network in Nagaland is near to completion. Under this network, transmission hub along with the one studios have already been installed in Kohima Science College, Jotsoma and the installation work of the 50 Satellite Interactive Terminals(SITs) at different parts of Nagaland is in progress. Once all the SITs are installed, the regular transmission of academic programs are planned to utilize this network facility.

5.A new transformer of 100 KVA has been installed in Kohima Sc.College to meet the power demand of hub equipments.

6.To start the EDUSAT programs the regular technical manpower is proposed including the engineer and technical assistant at the hub. During the operational phase, a total one time financial support of Rs.20.00 lakhs and recurring Rs.6.92 lakhs per annum is proposed. One time financial grant will be utilized to purchase the computers and the necessary software for generating the teaching tools. The recurring grant is proposed to meet the other expenses such as remuneration and TA/DA to resource persons, electricity and contingencies expenditure etc.
